New York, also known as the Big Apple or The City That Never Sleeps, consists of five boroughs: The Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island. It was originally a commercial trading post founded by the Dutch, and was known as New Amsterdam until 1664 when it came under English control. Today it is home to over 8 million Americans, and to two of the most recognisable landmarks in the world: the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building.
SUNY Maritime College is located on 55 acres of scenic waterfront property on the Throggs Neck peninsula where the East River meets Long Island Sound. From our beautiful campus it’s possible to take in the Manhattan skyline and the open ocean, blending the best of two worlds: a comfortable college town feel with the excitement of the greatest city on earth- only 45 minutes away!
