Telford was established as a new town in 1963. It takes its name from Thomas Telford, the great civil engineer. It has a population of 140,000. The nearby Ironbridge Gorge is renowned as the 'Birthplace of the Industrial Revolution'. The bridge was the first in the world to be build of cast iron. The town has a modern shopping centre with over 160 shops in air-conditioned malls, and the Town Park has 450 acres of speciality gardens, woodlands, lakes and other areas.

The Telford campus is within walking distance from the town centre and offers a safe and secure environment in which students can study, have fun, and relax. It is a small campus and all the facilities are just one minute from the accommodation. Many of the buildings on campus have only recently been completed, and are therefore modern, bright and comfortable.

There is a wonderful lecture theatre for film nights, talent shows and quiz nights. Discos are held in the student union. Outside there is a tennis court and football pitch.
