Centre Manager (residential)

Responsible to: Operations Director in Brighton

Responsible for: The overall running of the centre with day-to-day administration, team management and customer interaction. It is not an office-based job with regular hours. You must be outgoing, confident, flexible, be able to manage and motivate others, and be prepared to help with their work when necessary.

This is a residential position, and you will receive full board accommodation on the relevant campus, usually in the same areas as the students and leaders.

 Main Duties

1. Familiarising yourself with the campus of the centre where you are based, and also the

    nearest town.

2. Managing the team of LSC staff at the centre, and developing a friendly and co-operative  

    atmosphere.

3. Ensuring that other members of staff are aware of their responsibilities, and are carrying

   them out in a professional manner.

4. Managing all student arrivals, including checking arrival times, handling room allocations,

    giving a welcome talk, arranging the provision of food when necessary and a tour of the

    campus.

5. Managing all student departures, including checking departure times, checking rooms for

    damage and ensuring that buses leave punctually to reach the point of departure on time.

6. Ensuring that students, leaders and staff behave in an acceptable way, both by LSC

    standards and those of the host college or school, and taking appropriate disciplinary action

    where necessary.

7. Enforcing curfews, organising curfew supervision and corridor patrols to control noise

    problems at night.

8. Keeping comprehensive written records for the centre (including an end of course report)

    and running the centre within the agreed budgetary guidelines.

9. Keeping the banking and petty cash accounts up to date and sending weekly reports to

    head office.

10. Liaising with the staff of the institution where the centre is based over issues relating to 

      accommodation and food.

11. Liaising with the Director of Studies on all issues relating to the teaching staff, and

     encouraging a positive working relationship with the academic staff.

12. Liaising with the Operations Director on a regular basis to discuss the general running of

      the centre.

13. Ensuring that the company's health and safety guidelines are followed, both on campus

      and when students are on off-site excursions.

14. Liaising with the Local Agent and Welfare Officer over host family problems/changes (if in a

      centre with family stay students).

15. Holding regular (usually daily) meetings with group leaders.

16. Assisting leaders and students with any insurance claims.

17. Distributing and collecting questionnaires for all leaders and students.

18. When numbers in the centre are low and time allows, participating with groups and

      interacting with students and leaders during activities and excursions.

Rates of Pay

Pay will depend on experience and qualifications, but will be in the range of £400 to £550 per week. Working hours will include evenings and weekends. There will also be a final bonus subject to successful performance and size of centre.

Residential staff will also receive full board accommodation seven days a week for the period they are employed by LSC.

Activity Coordinator (residential)

Responsible to: Centre Manager.

Responsible for: Coordinating social programmes and assisting the Centre Manager. It is not an office-based job with regular hours. You must be outgoing, confident, flexible, be able to manage and motivate others, and be prepared to help with their work when necessary.

This is a residential position, and you will receive full board accommodation on the relevant campus, usually in the same areas as the students and leaders.

Main Duties

1. Familiarising yourself with the campus of the centre where you are based, and also the nearest town.

2. Liaising with the team of LSC staff at the centre, and developing a friendly and co-operative atmosphere.

3. Organising the work of the team of Activity Monitors in the centre so they are utilised efficiently.

4. Checking and supervising Activity Monitors to ensure social programme events are run correctly.

5. Planning, publicising and organising student events, such as sports tournaments, talent shows, quiz nights, and ensuring they are supervised and that activity staff participate fully in such events.

6. Researching, planning and coordinating full and half day excursions as included in the social programme.

7. Assisting with student arrivals, including checking arrival times, handling room allocations, giving a welcome talk, arranging the provision of food when necessary and a tour of the campus.

8. Assisting with student departures, including checking departure times, checking rooms for damage and ensuring that buses leave in plenty of time to reach the point of departure on time.

9. Confirming or cancelling at least 1 week in advance all coaches and entrances for the social programme, and preparing any vouchers, tickets or cash required.

10. Liaising with the Director of Studies to timetable teachers for excursions and activities when necessary, and providing relevant information for the teachers to use.

11. Preparing name lists, coach signs and emergency numbers for coaches for the excursions.

12. Informing the catering staff of any packed lunch or other special meal requirements.

13. Confirming discos, theatres, auditoriums, sports halls and other social programme room bookings.

14. Participating wherever possible and whenever necessary in activities and excursions, especially if outside of peak periods, and mixing with group leaders and students on a regular basis.

15. Keeping records of all vouchers, tickets and coaches.

16. Ensuring that the company's health and safety guidelines are followed, both on campus and when students are on off-site excursions.

17. Preparing and updating the LSC notice boards and signs around the centre to ensure students and leaders are kept informed and that LSC is a visible presence on the campus.

18. Wearing the LSC uniform provided as directed by the Centre Manager.

Rates of Pay

Pay will depend on experience and qualifications, but will be in the range of £350 to £400 per week. Working hours will include evenings and weekends. There will also be a final bonus subject to successful performance and size of centre.

 

Activity Monitor

(Most Activity Monitor posts are residential, but some non-residential positions are available)

Responsible to: Activity Coordinator.

Responsible for: Organising social programmes.

Main Duties

1. Familiarising yourself with the campus of the centre where you are based, and also the nearest

    town.

2. Liaising with the team of LSC staff at the centre, and developing a friendly and co-operative

    atmosphere.

3. Assisting with student arrivals, conducting a tour of the campus, and helping with student 

    departures as required by the Centre Manager.

4. Cooperating with teachers and group leaders who are accompanying activities and excursions.

5. Supervising, leading and participating in evening activities, such as discos, quizzes and

    games.

6. Organising and participating in daytime activities and excursions, such as walking tours,

    museum visits, sports afternoons and coach excursions.

7. Ensuring you have all the necessary information to lead excursions, and giving informative talks

    either on the coach or when walking around.

8. Counting all students on and off coaches, in and out of attractions.

9. Ensuring that the company's health and safety guidelines are followed, both on campus and

    when students are on off-site excursions.

10. Helping to prepare and update the LSC notice boards and signs around the centre to ensure

      students and leaders are kept informed and that LSC is a visible presence on the campus.

11. Assisting with any area of the running of the centre as directed by the Centre Manager.

12. Wearing LSC uniform as instructed by the Centre Manager and Activity Coordinator.

Rates of pay

Pay will be up to £275.04 per week, depending on experience and qualifications and is based on a 48 hour week over 6 days. Working hours will include evenings and weekends.

 

Residential staff will also receive full board accommodation seven days a week for the period they are employed by LSC. In return they will be expected to assist with extra duties, including early morning departures, late arrivals and curfew supervision.
